Melanotan 2 is a cyclic, shortened lactam derivative of alpha-MSH. Unlike MT-1, MT-2 is non-selective and binds strongly to multiple melanocortin receptors: MC1R, MC3R, and MC4R. Because it crosses into the central nervous system and stimulates MC4R pathways in the hypothalamus, MT-2 simultaneously induces intense skin tanning and triggers a profound increase in erectile function, sexual desire, and libido.
